Today, I extend my appeal to all women, particularly those in leadership and executive positions within this network, to join forces with me in turning menstrual leave into a reality for all women, including our daughters, sisters, mothers, and friends. Moreover, I wholeheartedly welcome all compassionate and supportive men to participate in this groundbreaking movement.For me, achieving a healthy work-life balance is of utmost importance, as both my job and well-being hold significant value. Unfortunately, our current work environment often presents challenges, particularly for women. The impact of menstrual cycles on women's physical and mental health is frequently overlooked and rarely discussed openly.Considering that we find ourselves in the year 2023, it is astonishing that menstrual leave has yet to be officially recognized and made available to women. Even having the option to take a half-day or a full day off during our menstrual cycles for recovery purposes should be permissible. Menstruation should not be regarded as an illness but rather as a natural aspect of womanhood.This year's International Women's Day theme, #EmbraceEquity, shed light on the fact that equal opportunities are no longer sufficient. It was heartening to witness companies embracing and supporting this concept. In my view, true equity involves granting all women the choice of taking an additional day off during their menstrual cycle—an action that would be transformative and groundbreaking for any organization.The widespread implementation of menstrual leave would greatly benefit women, transgender individuals, and non-binary workers who experience menstruation. It would provide them with direct access to the necessary rest when they need it most, leading to increased happiness and productivity in the workplace. Furthermore, it would enable their continued active participation in the labor market.Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, many companies hesitated to embrace remote work. However, the necessity imposed by the pandemic made working from home a possibility, ultimately contributing to a better work-life balance. Similarly, I believe that by embracing the concept of optional menstrual leave for all women, we can achieve a harmonious equilibrium between work and our natural body rhythms. We should not wait for an extraordinary event to occur in the workplace before making this a reality. Companies should empower women with menstrual leave as soon as possible.The freedom to take an extra day or half-day without shame, guilt, or fear of job loss would be liberating and rejuvenating for all women.I want to know your thoughts and comments on this matter.
