The judge sentenced Devante Skinner to 70 years in prison. Skinner was convicted in the largest fentanyl seizure in Livingston Parish history. Devante Skinner will likely spend the rest of his life in prison. The 32 year old found guilty of being a habitual fentanyl dealer and sentenced to 70 years for his crimes. It's a message to these drug dealers that are just wild, Wild West throwing everything they can out on these streets. Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason R detectives arrested Skinner back in April 2023. Deputies seized more than 2 lbs of powdered fentanyl and more than 3700 press fentanyl pills, making it the largest fentanyl bust in Livingston. In a statement, District Attorney Scott Perrilloux said fentanyl has taken the lives of too many in our community. We will diligently seek the maximum. Punishment for those who continue to sell fentanyl and other illicit drugs. The latest numbers from the Louisiana Department of Health show in 2022, more than 1200 people died as a direct result of synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, a 606 percent increase in just four years. You drug dealers that on the street out there thinking you're going to continue to do this, it's all, it's all fun. I got all this money, I'm making this, this, this big deal go down. It's all fun until it's not and it's not anymore. Skinner was also sentenced 40 years for possession of methamphetamine and marijuana. Now, the multiple sentences will all be served at the same time. DA says because Skinner has been sentenced as a habitual offender, he will not be eligible to receive any good time on these charges.
